Our one-off bleeding control workshop was fully booked within a few days. Tourniquets, trauma bandages and wound packing are tried and tested tools for rapid and effective haemostasis in tactical medicine and are now also used in civilian rescue operations. Like all tools, the use and correct application of tourniquets and the like must be known and practised. In this 90-minute workshop, participants were given the opportunity to learn how to use tourniquets, compression bandages and haemostatic agents. Various techniques were practised both in self-experimentation and on the new Erler Zimmer trauma simulators. The speaker, Marc Zierden, is the owner of the Airborne Medical Group and trains everyone in advanced first aid, as well as authorities and specialised forces in tactical medicine for dogs and humans.
